Cemetery History

DeKalb County Cemetery was established in 1881 as a burying ground for indigent, transient or otherwise unknown persons who didn't have anyone else to claim their bodies.

It was located on former County Farm property, and at one time there was a County Home where impoverished persons and the sick could stay and be cared for. The County Home was torn down many years ago.

Today, it's now a part of County Farm Woods, a nature preserve with hiking and biking trails. The cemetery also shares space with a shopping center and parking lot.
