From Kansas City, MO, take I35 South to Johnson Dr. Turn right (west) on Johnson drive, then turn right (north) on Knox Ave. Turn left (west) onto 55th Street. The cemetery is approximately 4 blocks west, on the NW corner of 55th St and Queal Rd.
This cemetery is a big nice open field on the side of a gentle hill, and has a rock wall fronting 55th Street. There are stone steps leading up to the cemetery from 55th street at the higher west end. It is obvious there used to be another stone pillar at the top of the steps to form an entrance.
Just up the steps is the one memorial stone that remains. The stone lists the two Campbells, and contains the following inscription: "Alexander and Nancy Gee Pioneers and early day settlers Merriam and Shawnee KS Parents D G Campbell founder of Campbelltown now Merriam." To the west of this stone is the border surrounding this burial.
County research indicates this cemetery to be the second oldest in Johnson County. It was established as a Pioneer and Indian cemetery and went by several family names throughout time. The Campbell stone was erected in 1940.
This transcription is complete and was done by visitation on Aug 27, 2005. Photos available.
