From the intersection of Highways 650 (New Hampshire Ave) and 97 (Georgia Ave) turn and go west about 1.25 miles until you reach Howard Chapel Road turn and go north for about 1 mile. The cemetery is on the west side of the road and it is in the entrance of Patuxient River State Park.

The cemetery is not in very good condition. Broken headstones and headstones that are hidden are in there. There is overgrown grass and trees that are down.

There is a sign that is in front of the cemetery that says, "In 1862, the cemetery became the burial ground of the Ancestors of the original African American Community of Howard Chapel."
