Contributed by Anne Braun, Nov 10, 2004 [annieb1961@comcast.net]. Total records = 5.
In Croom, from the intersections of Highways 301 and 382, go south/southeast on Highway 382 until you reach Mattaponi Road. Turn onto Mattaponi Road, and go north/northeast for 1 mile until you reach the entrance of "Our Lady of Mattaponi Retreat and Conference Center. Turn there and go east on Jolin Road for about .2 miles. The cemetery is on the 50 yards south of the road. There is a wooden fence around the cemetery.
The cemetery now belongs to Our Lady of Mattaponi Retreat and Conference Center. It is in good shape and well taken care of.
The cemetery contains the family of Robert William Bowie who once owned the land and the Manor called "Mattaponi. Mr. Bowie was a state leader and Governor of Maryland.
I visited this burial site on Nov 09, 2004. When the person who complied the record for this cemetery for "Stones and Bones", Catherine Lansdale Bowie's headstone was broken and partially there. I was unable to find her stone.
