To reach this cemetery in Independence, from the intersection of Hwy 24 & Blue Mills Road, go northeast on Blue Mills Road for 3.7 miles, turn right or south onto an unnamed gravel road, (the gravel road is about 200 feet west of Perrin Road on the north. The Chiles Cemetery is about 300 feet south of Blue Mills Road on the east side of the road.

This is just one of several cemeteries in Jackson County with the Chiles name. The cemetery is enclosed by a wall made from very large blocks of native stone. The Chiles family migrated from Kentucky and settled in this area along the Santa Fe Trail. We found 17 graves, the earliest death listed was in 1855.

My husband and I along with our good friends Jerry & Nancy Stuart, read this cemetery using a digital camera on Nov 01, 2008. This is a listing of all known graves taken from the tombstones.
