Take highway 63 heading southeast out of Leakesville MS. Travel 2.03 tenths of a mile and turn right onto Vernal River Road, which leads off southwest. Stay on Vernal River Road for a distance of 3.01 miles and you will see the Scotland Cemetery sign on the right.

The Scotland Cemetery is listed as the Maples-McLeod Cemetery on some maps. This is a very old cemetery started by the McLeods and McCaskills, who were some of the early settlers to this area. I am not sure why the maps use Maples.

It is surrounded by a chain link fence, and is very well maintained. It is located on top of a hill overlooking several square miles of timberland, located about a mile east of the Chickasawhay River.

All visible graves were recorded using tombstone inscriptions and grave plaque readings on Feb 27, 2007, when I walked this cemetery.
