Autry Cemetery
Clement, Sampson County, North Carolina

This cemetery is in the Clement community, four miles south of the intersection of Autry Mill Road and Fayetteville Hwy (US 13) and one-half mile north of the intersection of Maxwell Road (SR-1006) and Autry Mill Road (SR-1446).

This family cemetery was established in 1865 following the death of Emma Autry. After her burial in the closest cemetery in the area, her father "Big John" could not sleep for hearing her cry and call for him to take her home. At the advice of neighbors and with their help, he reburied her near his home place, in an open field, which eventually became the family cemetery. All of "Big John's" family are buried here except Sarah Elizabeth.

Today this cemetery is owned and cared for by the descendents of those buried here and is in good condition. The cemetery is still used.

Garland Glen Autry and I walked and read this cemetery in September of 2007. We found four old funeral home markers with no names in the Haney family row.
