This cemetery is located west of Coors Blvd at Arenal SW, N on Don Santos Street SW in Albuquerque NM.
San Jose de Armijo Cemetery is part of the long standing Atrisco Land Grant (formed in 1692). Below is the history I have gathered through the years about the grant.
This land grant stretched from the Rio Grande to the Rio Puerco in the west. From the north at the edge of the volcanic escarpment the land grant ran to the lands of Antonio Baca in the south.
The people of Atrisco (which is part of Albuquerque) retained control of the lands until 2006 when most of them were sold to SunCal (from Westland Corporation control) which is a land development company from California.
Recently (about 2010) Westland sold off their portion. It is only ancestors of the original land grant owners that are allowed to be buried in this cemetery now. There are about 5 burials here in a month.
My group walked this cemetery over 6 months late 2009-summer 2010.
