Note: Getman Family Cemetery has its own entrance from Highway 10, located immediately adjacent (to the north) of the above street address. There is a memorial plaque along the road side.

Cemetery History

The memorial plaque marking the entrance to this cemetery reads,

"Site of home of Frederick Getman. Came to America in 1710. Naturalized on November 22, 1715. Purchased 600 acres of land in Stone Arabia Patent and settled here in 1720. His sons and descendants were prominent in early civil and military life of colony and state
 
Erected by State Education Department; Descendants of Frederick Getman, 1934"

Cemetery Records

Records below were originally compiled from tombstone inscriptions by Michael Bernstein and archived on USGenWeb Archives in 2001. Bernstein left the following description of the cemetery...

"Burial groung on the old Oliver Getman Place (NW corner of Frederick Getman Homestead). This cemetery is located on the very end of School Street. Go past the old Ephratah School, all the way to the end of School Street where it bears to the right. There is an old barn and a house located there, go past the house up into the field, bearing to the left where the road, now a path, forks. Go up the hill and the burial ground is located on the righthand side of the path, at the very top of the hill. It is extremely overgrown, and the stones are difficult to read, but it is a noticable cemetery. It definately show it's lack of attention throughout the years."
