Old Spencer Cemetery is/was the original cemetery in Spencer (formerly "Drake Settlement"). Note: the Tioga County GIS shows the name of this property as, "Cowlles Corners Cemetery", however this is not the historic Cowell's Corners" which is just east of the town limits.

Cemetery History

The Old Spencer Cemetery was created in 1800 from land once owned by Joseph Barker, directly across Liberty St. from the Presbyterian Church. The first interment was that of Prescott Hobart, a 17 year old who had been previously interred on his father's farm until this cemetery was established.
