Railroad Cemetery
Jackson County, Oklahoma

Contributed by Patti O'Bannon, Dec 07, 2003, last edited Jul 24, 2007 [msobannon@att.net]. Total records = 1.

From Eldorado, OK take Highway 6 West approximately 4 miles. The grave is fenced and on the south side of the road.

According to information I found pub. by the "Daily Oklahoman, 1972," in the Altus Library history section, the Vale family was living on rented land when the child was stillborn following the mother's bout with measles. Having no money, the father followed the suggestion of Mr. William L. Lane, area section foreman for the Frisco Railroad, and buried the child on railroad land so it would not be lost in the fields on the rented farm.

Since it is on railroad right of way, the railroad, as well as school kids and other organizations, take care of it. It is covered with toys and red ribbons right now since Christmas is near.

I surveyed and transcribed this cemetery in December of 2003.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
