Located 2 km NE of Long Creek, OR. On Hwy 395, turn east on Keeney Forks Rd. Travel east about 1/2 mile and turn left at the cemetery sign.

This cemetery started in 1877 with the death of Eliza Ballance. Her husband, Charles Ballance, buried her on a piece of land he chose on his homestead. The road to the cemetery used to come through the Ballance barnyard in the early days. This newly chosen site became the community burial grounds for many years.

With time ownership of the land changed, Bill and Esther Gibbs bought the homestead from Ballance, and Ben and Loraine Carter bought it next, each keeping the burial site. All previous owners are buried in this cemetery.

In the 1950s the Carters had legal papers drawn up and signed with the county to declare the 2-plus acres a private cemetery. It is still owned and managed by the descendants of Ben and Loraine Carter, and continues to provide a burial place for the community. Information provided by Reiba Carter Smith one of the present owners.
