Hill Schoolhouse Cemetery
East View, Greene County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 39° 53' 49"N, Lon: 80° 13' 28"W

Contributed by Brad Jarvis, Apr 05, 2008, last edited Apr 08, 2009 [forza@windstream.net]. Total records = 36.

From Waynesburg follow Route 21 West approximately two miles, just east of the small village of East View. The cemetery is located on the left hand side of the road and is situated next to Waynesburg University's ballfields. It can easily be seen from the road and is surrounded by a white vinyl fence. Access can be gained through a single gate.

This cemetery is in poor condition but is cleared off a few times each year. Some stones are worn badly from age, and some have fallen. I also found eight unidentified fieldstone markers, eight completely illegible stones and few bases with no stones. No burials have occurred here in well over 120 years.

Entries followed by an * asterisk were taken from a transcription complied by Dorothy and James Hennen in 1975. I could not locate or identify these stones when I surveyed this cemetery in 2007.

I walked the cemetery on 22 April 2007. This transcription is complete and includes all existing stones. I also have digital photographs of all the stones as well as many views of the cemetery itself and would share them with anyone interested.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
