Thompson/Shrock Cemetery
Hanson Station, Grant County, Washington

Lat: 47°49'51"N, Lon: 119°08'57"W
T27N R30E Sec 28

Contributed by Pat Rice, Mar 12, 2000, last edited Apr 18, 2009 [rcrice@centurytel.net]. Total records = 10.

Following Hanson Station Road west, continue into Grant County on 44NE, turning north on Road U. Proceed 5 miles where the cemetery lies to the west. It is small, unfenced and untended, but easily accessible from the road.

It lies in the southeast corner of Section 28 T27N R30E, about 10 miles northwest of Almira (Lincoln County) and just inside Grant County.

It was established in 19 Apr 1899 in what was then Douglas County, becoming part of Grant County in 1909 when it was formed. The cemetery's name, either of them, comes from the names of the farmers working the adjoining land at the time of its formation. It is known equally well by either of its names.

The nine stones remaining were read as I transcribed them on 19 May 1999.

This cemetery that abuts Road U NE in Grant Co is a small one. When I revisited in Jun of 2003, it measured 195 feet north and south and 65 feet east and west. Measurements were taken along an old barbed wire fence on steel posts that surrounds the cemetery. The fence could fall down at any time. The adjacent farmer has left about 5 to 6 feet unfarmed around the edge.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
