Leland Cemetery (Saint John Lutheran Cemetery) (May Cemetery)
Sauk County, Wisconsin

Lat: 43° 20' 10"N, Lon: 89° 56' 42"W
Honey Creek Twp, Sec 19

Contributed by Kathy Waddell, Jan 09, 2003 [kaffe03@yahoo.com].
Total records = 540.

Location: 12 miles west of Hwy 12 on County Highway C, South Side of Road.

Many stones are unreadable or broken in the oldest part of the cemetery nearest the road. Rows were copied from the front to the back. Reference used to verify markers not there or unreadable was taken from information obtained by members of the Wisconsin Old Cemetery Society when the cemetery was copied in June, 1976. There are current burials in the cemetery. It is believed there are many unmarked graves.

The oldest records were destroyed in a parsonage fire in 1882. It is believed that the cemetery was located next to the church when it was built in 1869. The oldest readable stone shows a burial in 1870.

I surveyed and copied this cemetery on Sep 01, 2002.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
