Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery is owned by the State of Wisconsin and administered through the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs. The Department manages two other state veterans cemeteries, Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, and Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Mound.
Cemetery History
Located on the grounds of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery has provided a final resting place for eligible veterans and their dependents since June of 1888.
Wisconsin's first state veterans cemetery opened in June of 1888 with the burial of a Civil War veteran. In addition to veterans from the Civil War the CWVMC is the final resting place for veterans of the Indian Wars, Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Persian Gulf War, as well as peacetime veterans.
