Buchanan County, IA Cemetery Records
Buchanan County is a county located in the northeastern part of the state of Iowa in the United States. It was founded in 1837 and named after James Buchanan, who would later become the 15th President of the United States. The county seat of Buchanan County is Independence, and it is home to a rich and diverse history, including a fascinating cemetery history.

The earliest known cemetery in Buchanan County was established in 1850 and was called the Oakwood Cemetery. Over the years, several other cemeteries were established in the county, including the Woodlawn Cemetery in 1873, the St. John's Cemetery in 1876, and the Fairview Cemetery in 1893. Today, there are over 40 cemeteries located throughout the county, each with its own unique history and significance.
