Historic Burying Grounds:
Boston's historic buyring grounds date between 1630 and 1892 and are located in thirteen Boston neighborhoods. The burying grounds hold the remains of the first American settlers, Revolutionary Patriots, and founders of the United States. Records published here are the result of the Historic Burying Grounds Initiative (HBGI), a public/private cooperative program established within the Boston Parks and Recreation Department with the history of the initiative dating back to the early 1970's. The HBGI inventoried the tombstones of these burying grounds.
