Driving Directions

Out of Sherbrooke, Quebec, take the Eastern Townships Autoroute 10 West, to the St.-Benoit-Du-Lac exit (Exit # 115), then follow Route 112 East in the directon of Magog, Quebec, to the intersection of Route 112 and Chemin des Peres. Follow Chemin des Peres for about 8 miles to the Village of Austin. Chemin des Peres becomes Chemin Nicholas Austin when you reach the Austin townline. At the four corners in Austin, continue straight and watch for a sign that says "Knowltons Landing". Make a left turn onto that road, and then watch for Chemin Penfield. This road is private property, but the cemetery has a right of way. It is situated on a narrow strip of land between what was once known as the Glenbrook Hotel, and the property of Mr. Penfield.

Cemetery History

I have not been able to find out who owns and maintains this cemetery, or its history, but it was in good order when I visisted it this spring. From the date at the entrance of the cemetery, I presume that it dates back to 1828, and a burial was done as recent as 2001, so it could still be an active cemetery. As I was standing in the cemetery, I could look down the hillside and see beautiful Lake Memphremagog.
