History

Riverside Cemetery was established in 1890 as the Protestant alternative to the mixed-use Maple Ridge Cemetery. Maple Ridge soon closed up for further burials, prompting the opening of a new Catholic cemetery named St. Mary's Cemetery, in 1901, located adjacent to Riverside. Today, St. Mary's Cemetery is a part of Riverside Cemetery.

Records published here were acquired from the City of Sault Ste Marie on June 28, 2017. They include dates of burial ranging from 1886 to 2013. Note: these records also include the 281 burials in the Potter's Field.
