Swartz Creek Cemetery is owned and maintained by the City of Swartz Creek.
History
Swartz Creek Cemetery was established in 1836. It is located on Morrish Road (north of Miller Road), at the corner of Civic Drive, in the city of Swartz Creek. The cemetery is fenced and there is a gate on the south side of the cemetery.
An official survey of the cemetery was commissioned by the city council in 1985. It helped determine many unanswered questions about burials, but also added others. Apparently there are a number of Native American burials and other unknown burials in the cemetery, but these are not marked. Many of the older markers have been repaired, but others remain illegible.
To reach cemetery driving east on Miller Road, turn north or leftt onto Moorish Road. The cemetery will be on the left or west side of the road just after the turn.
Cemetery Records
Merle G. Perry, Jr. made the first transcriptions of the cemetery in the summer of 1960 and verified them on 7 July 1963. This transcription was made by Len Thomas in May, 2018. Additional genealogical information has been added that may not be included on any of the tombstones, to help provide more information about those buried in this place..
