To reach the cemetery drive south on Waterville South Rd. Continue till you reach the base of Standpipe Hill, take a dirt road left, and continue about ¼ mile to the cemetery. You can see it on the side of the hill as you approach. It has little to resemble a cemetery from a distance, only the square of green lawn sitting within the wheat field.

Gate of Heaven Cemetery burials dates back to around 1905. It started as the cemetery for Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Waterville. It now has been turned over to the Douglas County Cemetery District #2. The church still has say as to who is buried there and also keeps records.

I visited this cemetery in 1999, but did not do a transcription, but rather helped the person with me collect the records. Since that time I have not only those records but have been furnished the files from the current Sexton of the Douglas County Cemetery District #2.
