Summary
This listing contains names of U.S. veterans buried in cemeteries throughout New York State. Most of them were veterans of the U.S. Civil War, but there are some that were involved conflicts ranging from the Revolutionary War through WWI.
History
Data was written on to index cards, but who, when, and why is not clear, nor what organization was responsible for this effort.
The New York State Military Musem obtained these index cards and transcribed them into electronic format. They published the electronic records on their website (link here). They claim to have collected approximately 15,000 cards, however we counted 10,783 records in their electronic file. The Museum goes on to say that there are far more veterans buried in New York State cemeteries than reflected here.
